Check out your competitors' Facebook ads

Test, test, test—it’s the most important thing you can do while running Facebook ads. Testing your ads means seeing what copy, images, video, and headlines work best for your product and getting rid of ones that aren’t performing as well. It’s an important but time- and money-consuming process… but looking at your competitors’ ads can help you get a head start with your own ads.

Looking to see what works and what doesn’t

If your competition is any good, then they’ve been testing their own ads. This means that they’ve already done some of the initial work for you. By looking at the ads that your competitors are running on Facebook, you can tell what kinds of ads work for your product type. That way, you can figure out what your own ads should look and sound like.

Don’t just copy and paste your competitors’ ads! The information you get from checking on the competition is a way to inform your own ad campaigns, but you should always make sure that the creative you’re using in your ads is specific to your product and your company. (And if your competitor’s ads are generic enough to use for more than one product, then you don’t want to be using them anyway!)

How do I see what ads my competitors are running?

It’s actually very easy!

  1. Navigate to your competitor’s Facebook page
  2. Scroll down to the “Page Transparency” section
  3. Click on “See All”
  4. Scroll to the bottom of the pop-up and click on “Go to Ad Library”

That’s it! You can now browse around and see what ads your competitor is running.
